Duke students are at home and most staff working remotely, but the Jewish community at Duke is still gathering daily during the eight days of Hanukkah for the traditional lighting of the menorah. The events are sponsored by the Jewish Life at Duke office.

The lighting service via Zoom began Dec. 10 with Jon Scheyer, men’s basketball associate head coach leading the event. Other guests included Professor Dan Ariely.

Here are the guests for the last three days of the holiday.

  • Tuesday, December 15: Mary Pat McMahon, Vice Provost / Vice President of Student Affairs
  • Wednesday, December 16 at 7 p.m.: Jewish Student Union's Latkapalooza event with special secret guest! [Note 7:00 pm start time]
  • Thursday, December 17: Vincent E. Price, 10th President of Duke University.Left: Reuven Remez, Jewish Agency Israel Fellow at Jewish Life at Duke, lighting the candles; Joyce Gordon, Director of Jewish Life at Duke, with her Hanukkah swag.
