Nov. 6 Forum Set for Public Discussion of University Investments and Social Responsibility

Duke community invited to offer ideas on endowment investments

Members of the Duke community will have an opportunity to ask questions and share suggestions concerning university investments and social responsibility at an open forum sponsored by the president’s Advisory Committee on Investment Responsibility (ACIR) at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the Holsti-Anderson Room in the Rubenstein Library.

The session will focus on fossil fuels, but it will be open to all topics related to university investments. ACIR chair Lawrence Baxter, David T. Zhang Professor of the Practice of Law at Duke, will lead the meeting.

The ACIR advises President Vincent Price on social responsibility issues related to endowment investments. In the recent years, ACIR made recommendations bearing on “conflict minerals,” Darfur, fossil fuels and transparency of endowment holdings.  The committee’s reports can be found at the documents portal on the ACIR website.

The committee welcomes comments and agenda items from the Duke community. The forum will provide an opportunity for faculty, staff, and graduate/undergraduate students to learn more about ACIR’s work and to share their ideas for how it might continue to fulfill its mission.
