Putting Food on the Tables: Students Pack Meals for 100,000

Hundreds of volunteers descended upon the Durham Convention Center on Saturday, March 24, to package 100,000 bags of rice, beans and soup mixes, which were then delivered to local food pantries and agencies to help fight hunger in the greater Triangle region.

Duke student Emily Sun and Duke employee Jeanine Holland with the School of Medicine's Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) share why they decided to volunteer that morning.

The event was co-organized by United Way of the Greater Triangle, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Duke University, Durham Technical Community College, and local Rotary Clubs.
