In an effort to minimize traffic congestion, access to West Campus will be limited Wednesday evening when Duke undergraduate students celebrate their last day of classes for the academic year.
At approximately 3 p.m., West Campus entry points will be closed to the general public. Entry will be limited to students and their spouses/partners and faculty, staff and alumni with a valid DukeCard ID to verify identification and affiliation with Duke.
Entry points to West Campus will be stationed with police and other personnel. If parking on campus, motorists must display an active parking permit for their lot or garage assignment.
The affected entrances to campus include:
- Chapel Drive and Duke University Road
- Duke University Road at Towerview Road
- Towerview at the roundabout adjacent to Ambler Tennis Stadium
- Towerview at Science Drive
- Towerview Road and Erwin Road
- LaSalle Street at Erwin Road
- Research Drive at Erwin Road

All members of the Duke community are asked to carry their DukeCards and to be prepared to present them for campus access starting early Wednesday evening. Use of Duke buses will be restricted starting at 3 p.m. with all riders required to show a DukeCard to board.
After 3 p.m., the Robertson Scholars (RSX) bus will not serve the bus stop on West Campus and will pick-up/drop-off at the Campus Drive/Chapel Drive circle instead. Access will be restricted to Duke buses, emergency vehicles, and Duke service vehicles from 5 p.m. to roughly 11:30 p.m.
Duke Transit routes will not be affected, however an ID policy will be strictly enforced on Duke Transit vehicles during LDOC. Passengers are reminded to carry their DukeCard IDs.
Parking Garage IV will remain open as a visitor lot. Gates on all parking lots and garages will be operational. Students and staff with valid annual parking permits may park in most West Campus lots after 5 p.m. April 25 as they would on a weekday evening.
Any suspicious or concerning activities should be reported immediately to Duke Police by calling 911 from a campus phone or (919) 684-2444.
