Danai Adkisson had only been at his job at Duke for a few months in 2015 when he bought Duke football season tickets for himself and his wife, Kelsie, a clinical research specialist in Duke Behavioral Medicine.
College athletics had always been a big part of their relationship. They met playing in the marching band at the University of Wyoming – he played drums, she played piccolo – and they’d always enjoyed going to games together.
“We definitely liked being a part of that culture, so it was one of the first things we wanted to do when we got settled here,” said Adkisson, a programmer for Duke’s Office of Information Technology .
They’ll be cheering on Duke Football again this fall since Adkisson has already purchased season tickets for 2018, taking advantage of new discount options and low prices for fans who buy early.
New this season, Duke employees can apply their discount to seats in any one of the eight seating areas of Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium. Each area has its own price point. Season tickets for employees start at $74.
Anyone thinking of buying either season tickets or single-game tickets shouldn’t wait. To score the lowest prices of the season, buy your tickets before April 13. Prices will inch up after that and go up again after August 24.
“If you know you’re going to come, go ahead and purchase early and you’ll save the most money,” said Chris Alston, director of Duke Football Marketing. “The earlier you order, the less expensive your tickets are going to be.”
Adkisson took advantage of this feature, buying this season’s tickets on the west side, which features shade during day games.
“That’s going to be very nice, we didn’t have that option in past years,” Adkisson said.
Durham residents can once again take part in the 277 Club promotion, which provides four season tickets at a discounted rate to people whose zip codes begin with 277. In a new wrinkle for this season, 277 Club members can buy seats in general admission or one of three reserved areas on the east side.
Last year, the 277 Club resulted in around 700 new season ticket holders. Those who took part last season, can renew at the same price if they do so before April 13.
“It was very successful last year and we’re hoping to continue that momentum,” Alston said.
