Staff and faculty brought chairs, blankets and picnics for Friday's screening of the movie Sing as part of Duke Employee Appreciation on the East Campus Quad.

A few hundred employees and their families and friends enjoyed free popcorn, glow sticks and stuffed animals during the May 19 event, which was sponsored by Duke Human Resources. Here are a few scenes from the evening.

Duke second-year pharmacy residents, from left, Toree Reynolds, Katie Lentz and Katie Harsh share a laugh before the start of the movie Sing. “’Sing was great," Lentz said. "It was funny for both adults and children. It was great to hear some classic songs and songs more relevant to my childhood as well."

Kelsey Schreckengaust, left, a Duke Birthing Center labor and delivery nurse, and Ryan Doyle cuddle before the start of the movie.

Angel Barr, food service associate in Duke Hospital's Atrium Cafe, takes a selfie with her niece Yaya Thomas, 8, nephew Christopher Barr, 5, and daughter Imarianna Barr, 11.

Friends and pre-school classmates Melissa Bui, 4, Elodie Morgam 4 and Lee Caldwell, 4, share secrets and popcorn. Dimah Elnadar, 3, is at left. Elodie's mom, Sarah Martin, is assistant director for graduate admissions and special projects at the Duke Global Health Institute. “It was a relaxing way to spend a Friday night, and fun for my daughter to find her friends unexpectedly to watch with us," Martin said. "She loves the music in the movie Sing, and I like that it appealed to both my daughter and older son. It was a treat to be outside with others in the Duke community on a lovely spring night.”
