The Week at Duke in 60 Seconds: Trait Evolution Research; Free CPR Training

Welcome to the week at Duke in 60 seconds.

New research from Duke University shows that just because males prefer some traits in females – like bright spots on lizards or colorful claws on crabs – it doesn’t necessarily mean they evolved for courtship. The theory is that these traits also evolved for social status or protection from predators.

Many performers and artists who come to campus spend time interacting with Duke students through partnerships with Duke Performances. See more about some recent artists in residence on Duke Today.

This year for Valentine’s Day, you can learn to save a life. The Duke Heart Center will offer free CPR, AED and Heimlich maneuver training sessions on February 14th. Sign up on today.duke.edu/working .

Finally, follow Duke Photography’s new “Duke Photo a Day” Instagram for beautiful behind-the-scenes shots of life at Duke.
