President Richard H. Brodhead spoke to an audience of students, faculty, staff and community members at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service on Nov. 30.

The Clinton School was established in 2004 and awards a Master of Public Service degree.  It is located at the Clinton Center in Little Rock, also home to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum, which Brodhead visited after his remarks.

In his remarks, Brodhead discussed the value of public service in American democracy and the qualities Bill Clinton and other leaders have in attracting people to such service. "You know the history of public service has had its up and downs in American history. And this is a challenging time for public service.  I think this nation will always be very civic, and it will always have a public service mentality at the grass-roots level. ... But it makes me happy to learn that this library is connected to a public service program. A library is even better if it links the traces of attempts of public service in the past to the calling to public service in the present."
