Spinal Cord Repair; New Faculty Books: The Week at Duke in 60 Seconds

Last weekend, Duke Athletics honored Jim Smith at the Duke-Virginia Tech football game. Jim is the last surviving player from Duke’s appearance in the 1942 Rose Bowl, which was played not in Pasadena, but at Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium 75 years ago.

Grammy-award-winning vocalist Nnenna Freelon sang at Duke Chapel this week in a service that combined traditional evening vespers with improvisational jazz.

Duke’s faculty have been prolific in pushing out new books this fall. From the hidden logic affecting your motivation to the resilience of Syrian activists, Duke’s writers explore a wide array of topics in their latest books.

Finally, Duke researchers have discovered a particular protein that helps zebrafish repair their own spinal cords. The study could generate new leads into tissue repair in humans.
