From keepsake boxes to hand-felted ornaments, discover some eclectic holiday shopping finds this year while supporting the arts during the annual Holiday Invitational Art Show and Sale at Duke.

Through Jan. 4, the Duke community and members of the public can view art by nearly 20 North Carolina artists in the Arts & Health Galleries, located on the Duke Hospital concourse. As part of the invitational, Arts & Health at Duke will also host an art sale on four dates in November and December.

“The Holiday Invitational is just a great opportunity for people to get out and see some beautiful things that are all handcrafted by North Carolina artists,” said Jennifer Collins-Mancour, Arts & Health at Duke’s visual arts program coordinator. “Just come take a look or listen to the music. It will lift people’s spirits.”

Handcrafted pieces include paintings, scarves, jewelry, leather wallets, cutting boards and other artwork with prices ranging from $10 to $150. Artists will donate part of the proceeds of their work to support Arts & Health at Duke. Holiday cards and gift certificates will also be sold to help support educational art programs and art kits for patients.

During the sale, there will be live music, book signings and other special holiday activities.

The four Wednesday sale dates run 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.:

Nov. 16: Arts For Life will provide a free hands-on, holiday card-making activity, and there will be live jazz music by Arts & Health at Duke musicians in residence.

Nov. 30: A book signing by Daniel Wallace, author of “Big Fish,” “The Cat’s Pajamas” and “The Angelologia.” Arts & Health musicians will play holiday music.

Dec. 7: A performance by the Music Made in Heaven Handbell Choir and a free mandala-making activity.

Dec. 14: Live holiday music and free poems created by the Poetry Fox.
