The Week at Duke in 60 Seconds: A 'Better' Congressional Map and #Duke2020

Welcome to the week at Duke in 60 seconds.

Welcome back, Dukies! Duke recently welcomed the class of 2020 -- the more than 1,700 first year students arrived from over 70 countries and 49 states (all of them but South Dakota).

It’s the first week of classes for elementary schools around the nation, and Duke’s Harris Cooper recommends parents not help their kids with homework. For more, check out Duke on Medium.

A panel assembled by Duke has created a new congressional map proposal for North Carolina. The proof-of-concept map uses politically impartial redistricting to reflect the state’s population.

The Nasher Museum of Art has a new exhibit called Southern Accent: Seeking the American South in Contemporary Art. The exhibit features more than 60 artists.

Finally, did you know that more than 3,500 Duke employees work in downtown Durham? That number will increase when Duke leases over 100,000 square feet in the Chesterfield building this January.
