“I supervise five investigators and an evidence technician. We investigate all crimes, from misdemeanor theft to serious, violent felonies. Anything that happens in the Duke ‘city’ is our jurisdiction. I’ve been so blessed with such a great team. I’ve got some really well-experienced, mature, hardworking investigators, so that makes my job so much easier.

The thing I tell new investigators is whether it’s a simple wallet theft or something more serious, like domestic or sexual violence, you’re just trying to solve the puzzle. My day is often busy supporting my investigators as they support our Duke victims. I might be working with an investigator to help an employee who was actively involved in a domestic violence case, and even if it happened off campus, we help with safety planning for the victim. We spend a lot of time attempting to reduce the risk of violence to the victim and to Duke.  Not only are we trying to solve crimes, we’re also trying to promote safety on campus.”
