Faculty-led incursions give new students a taste for their adopted community

Faculty members played the role of ambassadors Saturday as more than a dozen of them led Duke students in a tour of local neighborhoods, eating and entertainment establishments and popular outdoor sites. "Duke, Durham and Beyond" is an annual orientation-week event that introduces first-year students to Durham and creates a first opportunity for faculty-student engagement.

After welcoming statements from university and city officials, the student-faculty groups broke up and headed in different directions. Below, Sue Wasiolek, associate vice president for student affairs, led students through a tour of downtown Durham.
