Weddings Return to Duke Chapel

After a yearlong restoration, couples return to Durham's most popular site for ceremonies

On July 2, Duke engineering Ph.D. students Drew and Jenna Young were the first couple to get married in Duke Chapel following the yearlong restoration project on the iconic building.

The couple wanted to get married at Duke Chapel because they met there during a graduate Christian fellowship dinner about two years ago just two weeks after arriving at Duke. The Youngs joined about 6,000 other couples who have tied the knot at Duke Chapel since 1933.

One of the most popular sites for weddings in the Triangle, the Chapel has wedding sign-ups on the first business day of each month. Sign-ups are for that month in the following year, and for the most popular month, it’s not unusual for couples to campout in tents.
