With the first day of spring on March 20, it’s a good time to get out and about by attending a free event at Duke this month. Whether you’re looking for a book club, art event or documentary film, the events calendar has something for everyone. Enjoy!

Tuesday, March 8 – Low Maintenance Book Club

Miss reading for fun? Consider joining Duke University Libraries for its first gathering of the "Low Maintenance Book Club," which aims to provide space for members of the Duke community to connect over reading. The club will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in The Edge Lounge in Bostock Library. For its first meeting, the group will discuss several stories from Neil Gaiman's "Trigger Warning." Monday, March 21 – Art with the Experts at Durham Public Library

Join Jessica Ruhle, the Nasher Museum of Art’s manager of Public Education, for a slide lecture on Reflections: The Nasher Museum Alzheimer's Program. The event, which is sponsored by the Nasher, is at 7 p.m. at the Durham County Library’s main branch, 300 N. Roxboro St. in Durham.

Wednesday, March 23 – 7 Habits of Highly Productive People at Duke

As part of its Learn IT @ Lunch series, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will provide tips, time saving tricks and solutions to everyday workflow issues, including how to best share data and keep your to do's and projects organized. The event is from 12-1 p.m. in The Edge in Bostock Library. Panelists include Emily Daly, head of Assessment & User Experience, Perkins Library; Matt Royal, team lead for OIT Collaborative Services; Debrah Suggs, Sr. IT Analyst for OIT Collaborative Services; and John Shelton, Faculty Technical Support, Fuqua School of Business. Seating is first come, first served. Bring your own lunch.

Monday, March 28 – Brain Awareness Week begins

Brain Awareness Week returns for its eighth year at Duke with a lineup of free activities March 28 to April 3. Kick off the week at 6:30 p.m. on March 28 with a screening of the Pixar film, Inside Out. Organized by the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, Brain Awareness Week is an international effort to promote the progress and benefits of brain research and will feature brain-related, hands-on demonstrations and activities, lab tours, and more led by Duke researchers and students.

Thursday, March 31 –Screening of the documentary film “Frame by Frame”

After decades of war and an oppressive Taliban regime, four Afghan photojournalists face the realities of building a free press in a country left to stand on its own – reframing Afghanistan for the world and for themselves. The film is at 7 p.m. in White Lecture Hall. A Q&A will follow.
