Next month, Faye Murrell will continue one of her favorite traditions for the 16th straight year.

Along with her daughter, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren, Murrell will head to PNC Arena in Raleigh for an ultimate Disney experience with beloved characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, a collection of Disney Princesses and Frozen’s Anna and Elsa. With her family in tow, Murrell will once again enjoy Disney on Ice, a show featuring singing, ice-skating and fun for kids young and old.

“Everything is so much fun with children because you can see their expressions and how excited they are,” said Murrell, contracts administrator with the Office of Corporate Research Collaborations. “I love watching their eyes light up when they see Mickey and Minnie come out and last year, my granddaughter, who was 4, sang her heart out to Frozen songs.”

Since she started working at Duke in 2006, Murrell has used PERQS, the  employee discount program, to save on Disney on Ice tickets. This year, faculty and staff can save $23 per ticket for an opening night show on Dec. 9 and $4 per ticket on four other days of performances Dec. 10 to 13.

Employees can access the discounted tickets through the PERQS website.

In addition to buying seven discounted tickets to the Dec. 12 show for her family, Murrell also picked up eight other tickets to share with coworkers so the group of 15 could sit together. In all, they saved $60.

The Disney on Ice theme for 2015 is “100 Years of Magic,” celebrating moments from the catalog of Disney movies, including sing-alongs to more than 30 songs like "Let It Go," "You've Got a Friend in Me," and "Hakuna Matata." Characters will recreate scenes from movies like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and more.

“It brings back memories of childhood for everybody who sees the show,” Murrell said. “It makes you feel like you’re at Disneyland.”
