Free Access to Rec Centers in October

Employees can workout for free as part of a month long program

Faculty and staff looking for a new place to workout will have free access to both of Duke’s recreation centers through October as part of a special promotion by Duke Recreation and Physical Education.

From now through Oct. 31, any non-member of Brodie and Wilson recreation centers can have unlimited, full access to gyms, pools, a climbing wall, and fitness classes as part of the Duke Recreation’s “Play Where You Work” initiative. Employees can visit the facilities for free by showing a valid DukeCard ID and completing a waiver. This offer is only available to employees and not family members.

“We’re here to provide opportunities that promote healthy, active lifestyles,” said Norma Whitley, member services coordinator for Duke Recreation. “We have excellent resources that make our facilities a fun place to be.”

While rooms of cardio equipment and weight machines are popular choices at both recreation centers, employees can join daily fitness classes that include yoga, cycling, dance and high-intensity interval training, also known as HIIT.
