Taken from the seat of a pony ride through Ireland’s Killarney National Park, Pam and Andy O’Shea snapped this photo on their way to Muckross House, a 19th century Victorian mansion that now acts as a visitor attraction on the Emerald Isle.

“Tracing our Irish roots,” Pam shared on Working@Duke’s Facebook page, adding that the time away for the couple helps to “recharge our battery and rewards us for all our hard work.”

The O’Sheas will soon have another opportunity to enjoy some time away from home. They’re the latest winners in Working@Duke’s #DukeTimeOff campaign and will receive an overnight stay at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club.

Their photo is one of almost 250 submitted on Instagram, Twitter and through an online submission form by Duke faculty and staff exploring the state, country and world. So far, Working@Duke has awarded beach chairs and lunch at Washington Duke’s Fairfield Dining Room as prizes.

During the week of Aug. 10, the final giveaway will award summer-themed prize packs to three #DukeTimeOff participants to mark the end of the summer photo campaign. Employees can continue to share images taken between May 18, 2015 and August 10, 2015 on social media with #DukeTimeOff or by using this online form

Here are some other recent submissions from faculty and staff capturing their lives away from the office.

Natitia White, a behavioral technician at Duke Regional Hospital, took this photo with her family at WonderWorks, a science-themed amusement park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. “Time off is important because it provides the time to reconnect with my two children and husband after a busy year,” White said. “It's when memories are made that last a lifetime.”

In this collage of submissions from Adam Hollowell, director of student ministry at Duke Chapel, he caught scenes from a weekend spent at the beach with family and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.

Tami Tuck, executive assistant at Duke’s Private Diagnostic Clinic, captured this photo of her husband, Tim, as he fished for flounder at Sea Level, North Carolina.

“Quality time with family is priceless,” she said. “Enjoying the back road trips of North Carolina is truly rejuvenating.”
