Duke employees have been sharing their #DukeTimeOff photos from all around the world, but some recent shots have highlighted time away from the office in Duke’s own backyard.

“Throwback to (almost!) a month ago, when this cool guy and I took a mid-vow wedding selfie at the Duke Gardens!” wrote Sarah Tung, a communications specialist in the Department of Economics, in a post on Instagram.

Just a few miles away at the Duke Lemur Center, Michael Palko, informatics educator with Duke University Health System Clinical Education & Professional Development, shared a very detailed picture from a visit with the endangered animals.

“Lemur Tail #DukeLemurCenter yes, I got THAT close. BIG thanks to @dukelemurcenter and #pictureDuke Photo Club. Is it me or does that tail look like the @artstigators logo?!?” he wrote on Instagram.

In addition to these two images, Duke faculty and staff have posted about 150 photos online for the #DukeTimeOff campaign, some of which are rewarded with prizes. The latest winner is Susan Jennings, a staff assistant with Duke’s Academic Council, who received a beach chair. She shared a video from zip lining in Asheville.

The next winner will be announced the week of July 6; two more prizes will be awarded in July:

  • An overnight stay with breakfast at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club
  • Lunch at the Washington Duke Inn’s Fairview Dining Room

In addition, summer-themed prize packs will be awarded to three participants at the end of the photo campaign in August.

An ongoing collection of submissions can be found on this website, as well as Working@Duke’s Facebook page. Submissions can be made by sharing photos taken through Aug. 10 on social media with #DukeTimeOff or by using this online form through Aug. 10. Full details can be found in this story.

During a vacation in Marathon, Florida, Michael Evans, director of marketing and communications in the School of Nursing, shared a kiss with Santini, a 28-year old dolphin at the Dolphin Research Center.

From North Carolina’s Nantahala River, August Burns had this photo taken of her and her spouse, Denise. “This is quite an adrenaline rush from the excitement and the cold mountain water,” wrote Burns, departmental business manager in the Fitzpatrick Institute for Photonics.
