Duke Communicators Win National CASE Awards

Duke University communications wins four awards for work in 2014

Duke University communications offices won several awards for their work in 2014 from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

CASE is the leading international organization for communications professionals working in education. Its national awards contest is among the most prestigious in the field.

Gold Medals were presented to:

Duke ProComm, a professional development program designed for and by communication professionals at Duke.  The program, developed by the Office of Communication Services in conjunction with the Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs and Government Relations, offers job skills and communication manager and leader track training. The program was honored in the Professional and Staff Development category.

"One Day at the Perk,"a multimedia package developed for Duke Today and the Duke Office of News and Communication that explored the special connections that regularly occur at the popular coffee shop/study space in the Perkins Library. Eric Ferreri wrote the text, Megan Mendenhall filmed a day-long time-lapse video and photography and Jonathan Lee designed the web page. It earned gold in the "Writing for the Web" category.

Silver Medals were presented to:

"Working@Duke" magazine, edited by Leanora Minai in the Office of Communication Services, was honored in the "Internal Audience Publications – Print" category. Working@Duke offers a "one-stop shop" for news and information about institutional priorities, employee benefits, services and programs, campus happenings, and other practical information for the community.

Duke Magazine, edited by Bob Bliwise in the Duke Alumni Association, received honors in the Special Issues category for its "Home" issue. The magazine asked more than a dozen Duke faculty, staff, students and alumni to write about subjects related to the theme of home as a place of identity, refuge, connection and engagement with the world.

Results will be announced in several other categories in the CASE competition later this month.
