A new Duke study finds that investments in early childhood education result in significant cost savings over time. Third graders who received early education were less likely to be placed in costly special education than their peers.

Duke researchers have discovered a brain marker that could predict who will develop mental illnesses as a result of stress. The hope is this marker will allow intervention before the disorders become chronic in the patient.

Finally, senior Anna Knight was recently elected as an undergraduate Young Trustee. Knight, a biomedical engineering major, will serve on Duke’s Board of Trustees for three years.
