Duke Medicine Meets Its New Chancellor for Health Affairs

Dr. A. Eugene Washington was introduced to the Duke community as the next chancellor for health affairs and the president and chief executive officer of the Duke University Health System Jan. 23 at a reception at the Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans Center for Health Education. He will officially take the position on April 1, succeeded Dr. Victor Dzau, who left this past June to become president of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences.

At the reception, Duke President Richard H. Brodhead, former Trustee Chair Rick Wagoner and Thomas Gorrie, chair of the Duke University Health System’s Board of Directors, all made introductory comments welcoming Washington and his wife, Marie.
