Do you have a holiday cookie recipe so good it’s fit for a king and queen?

Working@Duke is looking to coronate a “Duke of Cookies” this month as part of its first holiday cookie contest for faculty and staff. We’ll provide three bakers with special treasure-like prizes for the judged creations.

Entering is easy:

  • Complete this online entry form by 1 p.m. Dec. 16
  • Drop off six holiday cookies from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 15 or from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 16 in Office 01 at Duke’s Human Resources Building, 705 Broad St. Parking is available for free in the visitor area.

Judging will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Dec. 16 with winners announced on Duke Today by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19. Our esteemed panel of judges includes:

  • Les Todd, photographer with Duke Photography and self-described cookie enthusiast
  • Kristen Benkendorfer, owner of Big Bundts and More Bakery in Durham
  • Paul Figuerado, graphic designer/publication specialist for Duke’s Office of Communication Services and expert pastry taster
  • Sylvia Canoy, IT analyst for Duke Health Technology Solutions and Working@Duke superfan

Holiday cookies will be scored on a 25-point scale and top entries will be selected for: Best Tasting, Best Decorated and Best Overall. Prizes include a $100 gift card to Duke Stores, printed booklets of all submitted recipes and a “gold,” “silver” and “bronze” spatula for the three top winners.

Please note: Participants must complete the entry form and submit the cookies to be eligible. Dessert bars, truffles and non-cookie pastries are not allowed in the competition.
