Happy Birthday! Try Out Duke Gyms for Free
Duke employees can visit Duke Rec facilities for free during birthday month

Duke community members can celebrate their birthday month by lifting weights or playing basketball for free at Duke’s Wilson and Brodie recreation centers.Starting Nov. 1, Duke Recreation and Physical Education is offering a birthday pass to Duke staff and faculty who aren’t Duke Recreation members during their birthday month. The punch pass is good for seven free visits at Duke’s Wilson Recreation Center on West Campus and Brodie Recreation Center on East Campus.“Many employees are unaware that Duke has recreation centers right here on campus as well as what we have to offer,” said Norma Whitley, member services coordinator for Duke Recreation and Physical Education. “It is proven that more and more people, young and older, are looking to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and Duke Recreation is the first step in the right direction.”Duke employees with the birthday punch pass can participate in Duke Recreation fitness classes, swim, play racquetball and basketball, lift weights, use cardio equipment, and more. Employees also are allowed to bring along a co-worker who has a DukeCard ID for all seven visits. The promotion will run indefinitely, and individuals who are interested should email Whitley at nwhitley@duaa.duke.edu to arrange to pick up a pass. Staff and faculty must present their DukeCard ID and a valid form of identification that includes a photo and birth date.Non-members will have to sign a waiver during their first visit to a Duke Recreation center and sign the guest book during every additional visit.
