Registration open for Trillium workshop on integrating sustainability into curriculum

Faculty members who want to incorporate sustainability into their course have a unique opportunity in May.  Registration is open now for the 2014 Trillium Workshop: Sustainability Across the Curriculum.  The event takes place on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Duke's campus with an optional dinner in the evening.PurposeFaculty, course instructors, and others across the Duke community: Explore how to connect your discipline with sustainability and how to incorporate sustainability-related concepts and practices into your courses. Join a community of fellows who teach about sustainability in diverse fields. Together, we will explore how your disciplines intersect with the economic, environmental, and social equity dimensions of sustainability, and you will draft a plan to incorporate sustainability-related topics into your classroom.Schedule & MealsThe workshop, held on Duke's campus, will run from 8:30 AM to 5 PM on May 7, 2014, and will include lunch and snacks. Participants and fellows from past years can optionally come to dinner in the evening at the home of Charlotte Clark.Registration-All faculty/course instructors are welcome, as are students and staff with educational roles at Duke. We especially seek faculty who teach large introductory courses.-The first 10 faculty with discretionary accounts to register are eligible for a $500 discretionary account stipend. (See details below.)-Please register online, preferably by April 30, 2014. (Please also contact Eileen Thorsos directly after that date.)-We will confirm your registration and the availability of stipends on a rolling basis.Stipend RequirementsUp to 10 eligible Duke faculty can elect to receive a $500 stipend to your discretionary accounts when they complete the following tasks:-As you register, name a specific course that you will design or revise to include sustainability components.-Attend the one-day Trillium workshop, May 7, 2014.-Attend monthly meetings in the Fall semester 2014 to discuss planning or implementation of your course.-Create a post for the Trillium blog about your experience redesigning your course.-Permit your course syllabus to be published as an example of varied methods to include sustainability in teaching.-Participate in assessment activities of the Trillium community.For more information, please visit the Trillium website or contact Eileen Thorsos (eileen.thorsos@duke.edu, 919-613-8207).
