Duke will have a new academic chief. Sally Kornbluth has been named the university’s next provost. Kornbluth is currently vice dean for basic science at Duke's School of Medicine. She takes up her new post this summer.

It was a busy week for Duke in the nation's capital. Law Professor Chris Schroeder testified on presidential authority. And, Dr. Jane Costello spoke to a Senate committee on childhood development on Native American reservations.

In research news, a Duke study finds that middle schools have greater problems with discipline if they have a high rate of students being held back a grade.

Some notable people on campus ... Karl Eikenberry, former ambassador to Afghanistan, speaks March 6 at the Sanford School. Then on March 20, Duke hosts, Ta-Nehisi Coates, a national correspondent for The Atlantic.

Finally, students finished mid-terms this week and then headed out on spring break.
