Duke faculty and staff have access to 25 percent off tickets to Duke Performances events when they buy tickets from now through Jan. 6 - an increase of the normal 10 percent allotted to Duke employees.

"We're pleased to enable our colleagues with an additional incentive to explore the range of music, theater and dance programmed by Duke Performances," said Aaron Greenwald, executive director of Duke Performances. "Our programming in a variety of venues is an effort to select the best possible space for performances and an effort to get our patrons to explore the city in which they live and the campus on which they work."

Employees interested in the arts have a variety of performances to choose from in coming months, from Duke's own Ciompi Quartet to dance group Urban Bush Women and the internationally known Kronos Quartet. There are also family options like the puppet and music performance of "Love's Infrastructure" by Durham musicians Bombadil and puppeteer Torry Bend.

Heather Settle is excited to take her husband and 8-year old daughter to see Bombadil. She used the 25 percent discount to save about $20 on tickets to the show, which she hopes will be the first of many family outings to artistic performances.

"We were looking for something that would be music that my husband and I could enjoy and the puppetry will be appealing to my daughter," Settle said. "It's nice having the discount because we can bring more people and not worry about the price."

To use the discount, employees can buy tickets online or by calling (919) 684-4444 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. Tickets can also be purchased in-person at the Bryan Center Box Office from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A $6 per order fee applies to orders placed online or over the phone.

To receive the 25 percent discount, faculty and staff can choose the employee price when selecting seats online or mention the employee discount to the ticket attendant at the beginning of your transaction on the phone or in-person. A limit of two tickets per show can be purchased at the Duke employee rate.

Purchases are only available online from 6 p.m. Dec. 20 to 11 a.m. Jan. 2 while the Box Office is closed for the holidays. A full listing of performances for the winter and spring is available online.

For tickets to Pat Metheny at the Carolina Theatre or Zakir Hussain at DPAC, employees can receive the discount by calling those box offices directly. Tickets for those two shows are not sold through the Duke University Box Office.
