Peter Cartwright, former Duke Ob-Gyn Professor, Dies

Dr. Peter Cartwright, a faculty member in the Duke School of Medicines Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 2003 until his retirement in December 2011, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Cartwright was a skilled and compassionate doctor. He served as the medical director of the Department's Continuity Clinic and as such, was responsible for educating many medical students and residents.

He was also a supporter of the Blue Jean Ball, a fund-raiser for the department's global women's health efforts, donating his own artwork to the event.

Before joining Duke, Cartwright worked for many years as an OB/GYN physician at Vanderbilt Medical Center and Nashville General Hospital and was medical director of Nashville Planned Parenthood.
