The Duke Farmers Market will close out its season Friday with an "Oktoberfest" celebration.

Students, faculty and staff can stop by from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to load up on locally-grown fruits, vegetables and more. Along with picking up pie pumpkins from Snow Hill's Jones Farm, visitors to the market can also enjoy the Foster's on the Fly food truck and Locopops for popsicle flavors like cookies and cream, Mexican chocolate and raspberry hibiscus.

In addition, Joe Van Gogh coffee will offer free samples and will sell 12-ounce bags of Organic Cafe Femenino Mexico coffee, along with other items. Visitors can buy a healthy lunch to-go from Cosmic Cantina, Commons Restaurant and guest lunch vendor, Pomegranate Kitchen.

"We've had such a great season at the market, we want to go out with a some exciting activities," said Diana Monroe, health education specialist with LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program that sponsors the market. "It'll be a great time to have lunch with friends and find fresh fall produce straight from local farms."

The farmers market, located between the Bryan Research and Nanaline H. Duke buildings off Research Drive, will resume in April 2014.

Even though the farmers market is ending, Duke community members can sign up year-round for the Duke Mobile Farmers Market. The mobile market delivers goods for pick-up at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens between 4 and 6 p.m. every Tuesday. Visit the mobile market's website for more information.
