Bass Connections is currently accepting project proposals. Most proposals are due Nov. 4 and can be submitted online at the Bass Connections website.

Bass Connections is a new Duke University initiative launched in January with a $50 million gift from Anne and Robert Bass. The program seeks to provide new educational opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students to work in project teams on important societal issues through interdisciplinary approaches. Currently, the program has concentrations in five major areas: brain and society; education and human development; energy; global health; and information, society, and culture.

For the 2013-2014 academic year, Bass Connections has initiated 36 project teams, representing a variety of topics ranging from Environmental Epidemiology in Latin America to Education and the Changing Brain to Modeling and Simulation. Some teams collaborate with organizations in Durham, while others have components that take place internationally.

Teams in each thematic area connect students and faculty throughout campus, along with visiting fellows from outside the academy, to engage with complex issues of societal import.
