Discounted Duke Athletics Clothing at Surplus Sale

Need a little more Duke blue in your wardrobe?

Duke community members and the public can load their closets this week with authentic Duke Athletics gear as part of the fourth annual Duke Athletics "surplus sale." The yearly event allows students, employees and Duke fans from around the Triangle to descend into Card Gymnasium and sort through clothing, shoes, hats and more at garage sale prices.

This year's event offers a special advance sale for Duke faculty and staff from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. May 31. The sale will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1.

"Hosting this sale helps us with our storage space, but it also gives us an opportunity to give back to our fans," said Gerald Harrison, director of Human Resources for Duke Athletics. "It brings people on campus to see Duke and they can leave with some great Duke paraphernalia."

Fans of all ages will be able to dig through thousands of discounted clothing items, including shirts, shoes, game-worn uniforms and more. Prices range from $5 for shirts to $40 for shoes.

At last year's sale, about 1,000 T-shirts sold in the first few hours of the surplus sale, said Harrison, adding that the employee-only portion of the sale is a boon to faculty and staff.

"If you wanted to, you could come in and get your Christmas shopping done already," he said. "It's great to watch kids come in with parents and find cleats and clothing for summertime sports, too."

Brands available at this year's sale include Asics, Adidas, Nike, Under Armour and others. Sizes of women's clothing range from extra small to large; men's sizes vary from small to 4XL. Tall lengths are also available. All items - except for game-worn jerseys - are new.

Parking will be available in the Whitford Lots. Cash, checks, FLEX and credit cards will be accepted. All sales are final. No exchanges or returns. All quantities in all sizes of all items are limited.
