Indian Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Shiv Nadar to Speak at Duke Nov. 29

The lecture will draw on Nadar's experience working through the Shiv Nadar Foundation to enact social change and transform education in India.

Shiv Nadar, founder and chairman of HCL Technologies and the Shiv Nadar Foundation, will deliver a public lecture at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Duke University's Nasher Museum of Art.

The lecture, "Creative Philanthropy, Building Leaders for Tomorrow," will draw on Nadar's experience working through the Shiv Nadar Foundation to enact social change and transform education in India.

In 1976, Nadar co-founded HCL Technologies, now a $6.2 billion global enterprise and one of India's top five software companies.

In 1994, he started the Shiv Nadar Foundation. Since then, the foundation has created several new educational institutions in India, including the SSN Institutions, which include a top-ranked engineering college; VidyaGyan, which provides free, world-class education for rural children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds; and Shiv Nadar University, a multi-disciplinary research university founded in 2011.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Media planning to attend should contact Laura Brinn in advance at laura.brinn@duke.edu or (919) 681-8975.
