Duke students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends are invited to kick off the new academic year with music and food at the Duke Alumni Association's annual Forever Duke Block Party Monday, Aug. 27.

The event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. outside Forlines House, 614 Chapel Dr.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the Chapel Drive extension between Duke University Road and the traffic circle, beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27. That extension of Chapel Drive will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The celebration will include musical performances by Point Break and Laura Valk, free food, tasty desserts and a chance to meet other members of the Duke community.  In past years some 3,000 people have attended the annual event.

The party will be held rain or shine, but may be suspended if there is thunder and lightning.  In case of inclement weather, go to the DAA website to check the event status.
