Duke Chapel Christmas Eve services are at 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Duke Chapel will hold three Christmas Eve worship services, including a live broadcast across North Carolina of the final service.

The first service on Dec. 24 begins at 3 p.m. and is suited for families with young children. A Service of Carols and Holy Communion, with Duke Chapel Dean Sam Wells preaching, starts at 5:30 p.m. The traditional Service of Lessons and Carols begins at 11 p.m., with an instrumental prelude at 10:30 p.m.

All the events are free and open to the public. Attendees of the last service should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes in advance, as seats often fill up

"In a stable in Jerusalem, God reassembled man and woman, kings and working people, earthly animals and heavenly angels, around the fragile, newborn Son of God," Duke Chapel Dean Samuel Wells has said about celebrating Christmas. "At Duke Chapel, in imitation of this blessed reunion, we gather university and townspeople, young and old, people whose faith is vibrant and those whose faith is tender, to hear the story, listen to the music of the angels, and sing God's praise this wondrous night."

Those not attending can watch the final service live, in most parts of the state, on News 14 Carolina, available on Time Warner Cable channels 14, 114, 414, 1114 or 1414, beginning at 11 p.m.

"News 14 Carolina's exclusive coverage provides a wonderful and convenient alternative for viewers who cannot enjoy this treasured local tradition in person," said Alan Mason, vice president and general manager for News 14 Carolina. "We are pleased to partner with Duke Chapel again this year to provide that option for viewers across the state."

All three services also will be webcast on the chapel website, the Duke University Ustream channel and the Duke Chapel YouTube Channel (click on the live tab).

In addition to the Christmas Eve services, Duke Chapel will hold a Christmas Day service at 11 a.m. with Bruce Puckett, pastor of the Congregation at Duke Chapel, preaching. All are welcome.
