Air Advisory Issued Due To Wildfire

Sensitive groups encouraged to limit outdoor activities

State officials issued a Code Orange air quality alert for the Triangle due to the smoky haze from a wildfire in Pender County that started from a lightning strike on Saturday and is now burning across more than 3,000 acres.     The state's Division of Air Quality, part of the  N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, issued the Code Orange until 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Code Orange conditions mean that air quality is likely to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as children and older adults, people who work or exercise outdoors, and those with asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and other respiratory ailments. Individuals in sensitive groups are encouraged to limit their outdoor activities. For more information, visit the Division of Air Quality website.
