Duke's Paint Shop recently moved into a new workspace just east of the East Campus steam plant. The shop, which is part of Facilities Management, includes a variety of new safety features, including enhanced emergency lights and signage. The biggest improvement is a new a "semi-down draft automotive" paint booth where painters Brian Williams and Todd Allen perform much of their work. The 550-square foot metal booth - which takes up a large space in the middle of the shop itself - has state-of-the-art high efficiency fans and airflow that uses air from outside the building to circulate through the booth. A special temperature control also allows the heat to be increased in the booth up to 190 degrees, allowing for painted items to dry faster.
