Three Duke Faculty Members Receive Fulbright Scholar Awards

Nine visiting scholars to come to Duke

Three Duke faculty members and nine visiting scholars have received Fulbright Scholar grants from the Council for International Exchange of Scholars for the 2010-2011 academic year.

The Duke recipients are Marianna Torgovnick, professor of English and director of the Duke in New York program, who will head to Japan; Marilyn Telen, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Hematology, who will study in Russia; and Gabriel Katul, professor of hydrology and micrometeorology, who will study in Italy.

The Fulbright visiting scholars at Duke are Alejandro Rivera from Colombia, Chih Chieh Lin from Taiwan, Jae Won Yoo from South Korea, Joaquin Salas Rodriguez from Mexico, Olivier Perriquet from France, Yi Ju Lo from Taiwan, Elkhan Mehdiyev of Azerbaijan, and Hengshan Jin of China.

This year 1,200 faculty members of U.S. institutions and 850 foreign scholars received Fulbright awards to support international scholarly exchange.
