Duke in Pictures: Celebrating Pauli Murray

Students mark 100th anniversary of activist's birthday

Students gathered on West Campus Friday to paint a mural of Pauli Murray marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the scholar, poet and human rights activist.

The event was sponsored by the Pauli Murray Project, part of Duke's Human Rights Center, to spur discussion and inspire students and community members to know more about this pivotal figure of the Civil Rights era. Other events were held in Durham during the weekend, including a discussion about how to restore Murray's Durham childhood home.
