Deans Wells and Katsouleas Talk Leadership April 27

The last of the Duke Chapel Deans Dialogues series focuses on technology and humanity

Leading people during difficult times is the subject of a lunchtime conversation between two Duke University deans on Tuesday, April 27.

Duke Chapel Dean Sam Wells hosts the discussion with Pratt School of Engineering Dean Tom Katsouleas, from 12:15-1:15 p.m. in Schiciano Auditorium Side A, in the Fitzpatrick Center on Duke's West Campus.

The program is free and open to the public, and will include a question-and-answer period at the end.

"For engineers, the challenges of leadership are not just galvanizing a team or holding one's nerve amid economic adversity," Wells says. "The challenges mean facing questions of technological innovation, environmental sustainability and biological discovery that challenge our whole notion of what it means to be a human being.

"How does one prepare a person to face such challenges? That's my question for Dean Katsouleas."

The event is the last of this year's Deans Dialogues series, in which Wells discusses topics surrounding the common good with various deans from schools within Duke.

Past dialogues in this series included discussions with Fuqua School Dean Blair Sheppard, Medical School Dean Nancy Andrews, Sanford School Dean Bruce Kuniholm, and Environment School Dean Bill Chameides. Audio recordings of these discussions are available on iTunes.
