Nominations Being Accepted for Algernon Sidney Sullivan Award

Award honors community member, student for humanitarian service

Nominations are now being accepted for the adult and student Algernon Sydney Sullivan awards. Nominations are due by March 8, and nominees are particularly needed for the student award.

The New York Southern Society established this award in 1925 in memory of Sullivan, a southerner who became a prominent lawyer, businessman and philanthropist in New York in the late 19th century.

The award seeks to perpetuate the excellence of character and humanitarian service of Algernon Sydney Sullivan by recognizing and honoring in others such qualities as:

* Recognition of Selflessness

* Generosity of Service

* Nobility of Character

* Person of Integrity

* Depth of Spirituality

To recommend a student, submit a letter of nomination evaluating the candidate's "characteristics of heart, mind and conduct as evidence of a spirit of love and helpfulness to other men and women." A nomination form and additional information about the Sullivan Award can be found on the Provost's website. All student nominations should be sent to me at dredmond@duke.edu.
