Duke Professor James Hamilton will take questions from online viewers about new model s for the news media, during a live "Office Hours" webcast interview beginning at noon Friday, Feb. 5, on Duke's Ustream channel.

To ask a question of Hamilton in advance or during the session, send an email to live@duke.edu, post a comment on the Duke University Live Ustream page on Facebook or tweet with the tag #dukelive.

In an opinion piece last year, Hamilton argued that newspapers could better survive and fulfill their civic missions by becoming nonprofit organizations or low-profit limited liability corporations. He also co-authored a report last year, "Accountability through Algorithm," which highlighted how journalists could use computers to perform their watchdog function.

Hamilton is director of the DeWitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy at Duke. He is the author of "All the News That's Fit to Sell: How the Market Transforms Information into News." Most recently, he co-wrote, with Duke Professor Scott De Marchi, "You Are What You Choose: The Habits of Mind that Really Determine How We Make Decisions." He holds the Charles S. Sydnor professorship in public policy at the Sanford School of Public Policy and is also a professor of political science and economics.

Office hours at a university are the times when professors leave their doors open for people to wander in and converse, whether it be about current events, the meaning of life or developments in their fields. Duke's Office Hours series aims to bring the expansiveness and sparkle of these conversations to anyone with an Internet connection and an interest in the ideas bubbling up at Duke. To date, topics have ranged from the war in Afghanistan to the New Testament, World Cup soccer and the state of Muslim Americans since 9/11. You are invited to join the conversation.
