A Fuqua Traffic Warning: Slow Down at Towerview Intersection

Duke Police to increase patrols at start of school year

The complaints are piling up about traffic violations at the Fuqua School entrance at the intersection of Towerview Drive and Fuqua Drive, and Duke Police is paying attention.

Faculty, staff and students say many drivers coming to the entrance are not stopping or are not yielding the right-of-way to one another, said Glenn Reynolds, director of facilities for Fuqua.

On Aug. 7, Duke Police set up an observation post at the intersection and found that very few drivers came to a complete stop, especially those making right hand turns. Three cars proceeded through the stop sign without even slowing down.

To ensure traffic moves safely at the intersection during the first week, Duke Police will increase patrols of this intersection and issue warning tickets for violations. Repeat violations will result in a citation.

Reynolds said grounds crews will also trim trees at the intersection so that stop signs are unobstructed. In addition, warning flags will also be posted, Reynolds said.
