Motorcycle Ride and Jam to Honor Children

Funds supports scholarships in the name of Duke employee's children

Three years ago, Duke employee Kathy Evans lost two children Jason and Jessie in a car wreck on I-95 in South Carolina. This Saturday, July 25, two events will remember them and raise money for scholarships fund in the children's names.

Motorcyclists will do their part in the first Jason and Jessie Evans Poker Run. Registration is from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Andy's in Dutchville Shopping Center in Creedmoor and at the Roses parking lot in Roxboro.

Costs for the ride is $15 per bike and $5 per rider. The ride will move through Wake County and end at Crazy Shots in Hillsborough.

Following the ride, the Jason and Jessie Evans Jam will be held from 5-9 p.m. at the Big Barn Convention Center in Hillsborough. The event will include food, live music, and a silent auction. The food is provided by Thrills From the Grill and the music by local band Good Rockin' Sam. Items in the silent auction include ACC tickets, local art work, and vacation get-a-ways.

Tickets for the jam are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets are sold at Kuttin Korner in Hillsborough and McAdams Muffler in Efland or by calling 919-563-1063.

 

At the time of his death, Jason was 19, a 2005 graduate of Orange High and a sophomore at Florida State University. Jessica was 14 and a freshman at Orange High and on the volleyball team.

 

Money raised by the Jason and Jessica Evans Memorial Fund supports sports scholarships and athletic equipment at Orange High School, scholarships for two children at Camp New Hope and a full scholarship in sports medicine at Florida State University.
