Duke Biochemist Elected to the National Academy of Sciences

Biochemistry professor honored for study of cellular processes

Lorena S. Beese, Ph.D., a James B. Duke Professor of Biochemistry at Duke University, is one of 72 newly elected members to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). NAS is the advisory organization to the President and Congress and is composed of experts in all scientific fields. Beese studies cellular processes in atomic detail, including cell signaling and cancer.
