Academic Council Elects Three to ECAC

The Academic Council elected three female faculty members with long records of university service to terms on the Executive Committee, the council's governing body.

Suzanne Shanahan, associate research professor of sociology who is completing a term as chair of the Arts & Sciences Council, Dr. Ann Brown, associate professor of medicine and associate vice dean for faculty development, and Marie Lynn Miranda, associate professor in the Nicholas School and the Department of Pediatrics were elected in a secret ballot Thursday at the council's Thursday's session.

The three will join continuing committee members Chair-elect Craig Henriquez, (engineering & Computer Science); Stan Abe, (Art, Art History & Visual Studies); Ana Baros, (Civil Engineering); Amy Bejsovec (Biology) and Faculty Secretary John Staddon (Psychology and Neuroscience).

ECAC is responsible for setting the agenda of Academic Council meetings, recommending faculty appointments to university committees and other faculty governance tasks. The council is the university's highest faculty governing body.

The council also re-elected Staddon as faculty secretary. He faced no opposition.
