Traffic Alert: Construction Set for 15-501 Near NC 751

Commuters traveling north on US 15-501 may encounter brief traffic delays near the exit for NC 751 (Cameron Boulevard) during the next few weeks.

The Exit 17 ramp to NC 751 is narrowed to one lane as work gets underway on a road improvement project overseen by Duke's Facilities Management Department (FMD).

Motorists are urged to use extra caution, allow more travel time and consider alternate routes.

Orange barricades were erected this week. Construction begins soon to extend the right-turn lane to improve traffic flow for motorists turning east on NC 751 toward West Campus and Duke University Hospital.

The work is part of a major road improvement project, launched in April, to modify lanes and traffic signals at several intersections along Erwin Road and NC 751. Work continues next month at the intersection of LaSalle Drive and Erwin Road.

Paul Manning, director of FMD's project management, said the project represents Duke's continuing partnership with the City of Durham.
