Duke volunteers step up for Asthma Walk

Duke Health System Senior Vice President Dr. William Fulkerson invites Duke employees to participate in the 2008 Asthma Walk to raise money and awareness for the American Lung Association. The seventh annual 3.2-mile walk will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, on the Centennial Campus of N.C. State University in Raleigh.

The walk is part of a series of events designed to support more than 35 million Americans living with chronic lung disease.

Participants may register online or at Centennial Park before the event. Contact Suzy Johnson (668-3466) or Sarah Woodard (684-5680) for more information or to volunteer to help with the event.

The American Lung Association also will hold an Asthma Walk Silent Auction from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Duke Medical Center Boardroom (room 1170-B yellow zone). Organizers are accepting new or gently used items as donations for the auction, such as small household appliances, decorative items, sports equipment, tickets for artistic or sports events or gift baskets. For more information, contact Karen Riches (684-1941) or Jennie Goetz (681-2170).
