Radiologist Glenn 'Ed' Newman dies at age 61

Longtime Duke medical faculty member Dr. Glenn Edwin 'Ed' Newman, 61, passed away on July 24 at Duke Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

Newman graduated from Clinton High School in 1965 and attended Duke University on a football scholarship. After graduating from Duke Medical School in 1973, he completed five years of a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Duke as well as two years at the National Heart and Lung Institute in Bethesda, Md. He also completed a residency in radiology at Duke and was a member of the Duke Medical Center faculty as a vascular and interventional radiologist for the past 25 years.

 

Newman is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary; his daughters Kathryn and Lauren; his son-in-law, Walter DuPriest; and his brothers, William Neal Newman and Walter Joseph Newman.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the Duke University Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 1113 W. Main St., Durham and at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Duke Chapel lounge. Please enter the lounge using the Campus Ministry door across from the Bryan Center. Burial will take place at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, N.C.
