Republican Candidate Ron Paul to Speak at Duke May 2

Congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will speak from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, in Duke University's Reynolds Theater.

Paul will discuss financial markets, war and civil liberties, followed by a question-and-answer session. Paul will also sign copies of his recent book, "The Revolution: A Manifesto." The event is open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis at the University Box Office in the Bryan Center. They also can be reserved online for a $3 service fee at http://www.tickets.duke.edu.

Paul was elected to Congress in 1976 and first ran for president in 1988 as a Libertarian nominee. A 1961 graduate of Duke's School of Medicine, Paul is also an obstetrician/gynecologist who has delivered more than 4,000 babies.

"Ron Paul has a special connection with Duke. He is proud of his Duke connection, and was pleased to get a chance to come back to campus," said Michael Munger, chair of Duke's political science department, which is sponsoring the event.

Paul is an advocate for limited federal government, low taxes, free markets and a return to constitutional principles. He is known among his congressional colleagues and constituents for his consistent voting record. He will not vote for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution.
