Duke Communicators Win National Awards

Duke University communications offices have won several communications awards for 2007 from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

CASE is the leading international organization for communications professionals working in education. Its national awards contest is among the most prestigious in the field.

Working@Duke, a monthly publication for Duke University employees, won a gold medal in the 2007 CASE Circle of Excellence Awards Program's category of Periodical Staff Writing for Internal Audiences and a bronze medal in the category of Print Internal Audience Tabloids and Newsletters.

Duke Magazine won a gold medal in the category of Best Articles of the Year for Bridget Booher's article "Smarter Than Your Average Fare" about rising senior and hypermodern chef Bryan Zupon.

Duke Photography and the Office of Creative Services, Duke University Health System (Chris Hildreth, Les Todd, Minnie Glymph, Lacey Chylack and Jennifer Sweeting) received a bronze medal in the Individual Institutional Relations Publications category for the book The Sarah P. Duke Gardens: A Wonderful Wander. In both text and photos, the book explores the history and beauty of the gardens.

Duke's Office of News & Communications (ONC) won a gold medal in the General News Writing category, the third year in a row it has won the top award in this category and the fourth consecutive year it has won a CASE national gold medal. In addition, ONC's online daily newspaper for the Duke community, Duke Today, received a bronze medal in CASE's Web-Based or Electronic HTML Internal Audience Periodicals category.

The Division of Student Affairs won a bronze medal in the category of In-House Publications for Senior Stories: Profiles of Engagement, which profiled several graduating 2006 seniors.
